I don't think that xdm is problem, as I can login via
telnet (from a PC) and start up an X sessions without
problems.
For whatever reason, I can't (or am not doing it correctly)
for the console to put it into the X screen for login
(which also has the small console box). right now the
console is at a non-GUI state (login:)
Don't know if this makes any difference
