Hello-
I have a AlphaStation 200 4/233 with a video card that's identified as an S3
Trio 64 with 2.0 MB of video memory. The book that came with the hardware
for this AlphaStation calls it a "9FX Vision 330", but I'm assuming it's the
DEC name for the card itself. The AlphaStation has the hobbyist/personal
version of Tru64 5.0 + patch set # 1 installed.
According to the video card's manual, I ought to be able to do 1280 x 1024
at 70+ Hz under Unix (at least, under Digital Unix 3.2d-1, which is the version
that was apparently current when the manual was written). The card is
defaulting to 1024 x 768. I've tried adding a
-screen0 1280
or
-screen0 1280x1024
or
-screen0 1280x1024 -vsync 70
to the /var/dt/Xservers file, and that has an effect, but it's not the
desired effect. :-| When I do any of those, my monitor (a Viewsonic G790,
19" capable of up to 1600x1200 _at_ 85Hz) appears to either go into power save
mode or lose contact with the card completely (the green LED near the power
switch on the monitor switches to amber as soon as the X server starts).
The screen goes black, and I'm forced to undo the config change and restart
X to get a functioning screen again.
I know I can't do higher color depths with this card, but I was pretty sure
(and the card's manual seems to agree) that I could at least do 1280x1024.
Does anyone have any suggestions for other things I might try? Can anyone
verify that 1280x1024 can be done with this card under 5.x?
Thanks,
Tim
