Thanks to all that replied. We read your responses, looked at our procedure and
sure enough we missed a kernel rebuild.
The long and short of it is that we had a RIS procedure that we had developed.
It worked fine until we got to systems with these cards in them. Well we were
not doing a kernel rebuild after applying the open3d. To much haste and not
enough thinking. Part of the issue that the cards were not Compaq or DEC's
and so we started blaming the cards and failed to examine the process.
thanks to all who replied.

Subject: Intergraph graphs cards - need help on 500a systems
Hello,
Here the deal, we have several 500a systems that were nt systems. They had low
end graphics cards that were not compatible with Compaq Unix. We tried to make
them work but after contacting several support persons, we were told the orginal
cards will not work. Then we had several NTSI alpha systems that had Intergraph
cards in them. We installed the Intergraph cards into the 500a systems and SRM
reported that the cards to be a 4D40T, which should work with Compaq Unix. The
powerstorm 4D40T cards are good graphic cards for Compaq Unix. We loaded the
operating system and open3d licenses and we only get 640x480 with 16 colors
graphics. We are running 4.0f of Compaq Unix. The intergraph card is a MSMT407
with a catseye daughter card model MSMT259.
Does anybody know why the intergraph cards are not working or have we made a
mistake, or they won't work so we are wasting our time. The goal is to make the
500a systems work with unix with a good graphic card. The NTSI systems which
are alpha based, will only run NT.
If you would like more info please let me know. We are just trying to piece
together some alpha nt system to make unix workstations, instead of buying
systems. Compaq pulled the plug on NT on alpha so we are trying to use the
equipment, it has plenty of life left in it.
Thanks for your help in the past and any help you can provide on this problem.
