Script to monitor log sizes

Is there a simple script to monitor the size of files, specifically log
files on Tru64 Unix 4.0D.
This weekend I found a log file that was 7.7 GB and it killed the
system. I need to know if there is a way to monitor the size of the
files and maybe send the results of the monitoring to a internal mail
address.
