Hi folks,
I have just upgraded my graphics card (on a XP1000 running 4.0E) from a 3D30
PowerStorm to a ELSA Gloria Synergy. The Compaq web pages say that no new
software is required for the upgrade as it is already included in the OS
version 4.0E. However I can't rebuild the kernel with the new card. Here
is what I've found.
The generic kernel boots correctly (in full graphics mode) on the new card.
I have used sizer -n NEW to build a new configuration file, copied the
section regarding controllers and bus information to the configuration file
/sys/conf/SYSNAME, and rebuilt the kernel with doconfig -c SYSNAME.
Unfortunately on rebooting I get the message 'can't open display' and the
system comes up in single user mode.
I note that the (original) graphics card appears to be referred to in the
files /sys/conf/SYSNAME.list and /sys/conf/.product.list. The Unix System
Administration documentation says that the .product.list file should be
changed using a Subset Control Program (SCP) supplied with the new device.
But Compac did not send any software (nor instructions) for unix
installation.
I have read
http://www.ornl.gov/its/archives/mailing-lists/tru64-unix-managers/2000/02/m
sg00112.html
but I am not sure about the lines in the SUMMARY mean:
>When it comes at compiling the kernel I added:
>config_driver ingr
Is this a new entry for the configuration file?
Any advice appreciated.
Regards
John V.
