Hi. I am having a little problem with user maintenance:
I have inherited a machine and I need to eliminate a number of users
on it. No problem, just remove them, right? But I get the following error:
*****************************
Enter a login name to be removed or <Return> to exit: smith
This is the entry for (smith) in the /etc/passwd file:
smith:1345:0:Stan Smith:/usr/users/smith:/bin/sh
Is this the entry you want to delete (y/n)? y
Working ...userdel: Specified user not found.
User (smith) was not removed.
******************************
Hmmm. So I go run Account Manager and I notice that there are
a number of listings in /etc/passwd that aren't listed there. Some
of these are the ones that I want to delete but others are perfectly
fine and I don't want to touch.
Any suggestions as to what is going on and what I can do?
Machine is running 4.0e
