Thanks to all who replied. They were, in order of appearance:
Mike D Cross [crossmd_at_mh.uk.sbphrd.com]
Jim Williams [jim.williams_at_alaska.edu]
Herman_Fredriksson_at_perpetual.com.au
Mike's suggestion, while it didn't fix the problem did help system
performance. [NOTE: sys_check takes a _really, really_ long time to run on
a 3300 and makes a 200 page diagnosis! Interesting though.]
Herman really showed me the light, so to speak. The problem was that as an
internal 10.x.y.z network, we "own" all the subnets. I just had to have one
entry in hosts.rev:
primary 10.in-addr.arpa hosts.rev
Still, as Herman noted, this seems to be a problem in DEC's implementation
of make_hosts - it seems developed for only one subnet.
Again, thanks for all who replied,
Mike
