Thanks to Bryan Lavell, Rodrigo Poblete, Emmanual, Matthias, Dolder, Anthony
Miller, Viktor Holmbert, Raja Nagaraja, Martin Moore, Eskil Swahn, Nikola
Milutinovic, Frank Wortner, alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com, and Dr. Tom Blinn for
their responses.

The answer was that the OS needs to be upgraded first (minimum 4.0e, though
those that mentioned it, suggested 4.0f minimum) because 4.0d is not able to
run on an EV6 processor.

Dr. Blinn also suggested that we might be well off to either upgrade to a
Wildfire when they come out, or that we might get as much bang for our buck
if we went with an ES40 instead of the GS60.

Thank you all.

John

Subject: AS8200 -> GS60 upgrade: Which comes first, the OS or the
Hardwar e?

We're looking to upgrade our 8200 to a GS60. Since the GS60 would be
running EV6 processors, would we need to upgrade our OS from 4.0d to 4.0f
(or above) before the hardware portion? or can we do the hardware, and then
the OS?

We were thinking that we would need to do the OS first because we assumed
that 4.0d would die a miserable death if it saw an EV6 processor, but we
just thought we should ask the experts.

Thanks,

John
