Thanks to Martin Moore, Darryl Cook, Rochelle Lauer, Edward Branley,
Matthias Dolder, John Speno, & Dr. Tom Blinn for their responses.
While some of the people have media in hand, it is because they were part of
the field tests.
Dr. Blinn said it best:
V5.0A has not even been shipped by engineering to software
manufacturing.
It was scheduled for delivery for manufacturing the end of March,
but it is not yet complete (the extensive testing being done to assure
correct functioning of the TruCluster software is still uncovering problems
in the base OS code, and until all the base and cluster problems are fixed
as well as tested sufficiently to assure the fix hasn't broken something
else [we
have a problem with that], it's not going to be ready for
manufacturing).
Once it's in manufacturing, I'd guess between 3 and 4 weeks before
it's out the door on the way to customers; it's got to be integrated into
factory installation procedures, as well as building an inventory of kits
for field and customer updates, and the internal "field" updates ship at
least a week before customer updates start shipping.
So it appears that the Sales people were being a bit over zealous (to put it
politely) when they had lunch with my boss.
As was also asked. Yes, another SA from here asked this question about a
month ago. However, after he asked, he left the company, and then our boss
met with the sales folks.
Thanks again,
John

Subject: Is 5.0A out yet?
My Manager had lunch yesterday with a Regional Sales VP who assured her that
5.0A had shipped. However, we've yet to see the media. Is it really out,
or are the sales folks just a little ahead of the game?
Thanks,
John
