Can anyone recommend an inexpensive commodity type
controller, scsiIIUW or otherwise, for Tru64 on a PC164
based system (you can buy these boards+500 MHz cpu for
$200. these days)?
I understand from the archives that
1. most NCR 810 based OEM boards will
work. Correct?
2. an OEM NCR 53c875 board might work. Will it?
If so, might the 53c885 work?
3. an Adaptec 1742 will work. Any experience here?
It was not listed in the SRM list (see below)...
4. the archive "SUMMARY: SCSI controller for XP1000"
states "I have a little Alpha 400 with a generic QLogic FastPCI
card in it...1040 model...$60." So OEM cards do work...in general?
5. the intraserver 3140U-U costs $315. This is
too much for a technology-enthusiast Tru64 system.
As reported in the archive's
"Looking for SCSI adaptor for PC164-based system",
SRM requires one of:
Symbios/NCR 53c810
Symbios/NCR 53c825
Symbios/NCR 53c875 (scsi II UW)
QLogic ISP 10x0
Here is the list of officially supported storage
controllers from
http://www.digital.com/info/SP4161/
that lists the Adaptec 1742....
