I have a problem where a AlphaServer 2300 which had a faulty rz26l.
The device was replaced for a new one. The new disk was relabelled and the /
and /usr were restored. The trouble is the system can
not be brought up from single user mode as the device is unrecognized
and has a HWID of -1.

The following has been tried after reviewing other HWID problems
listed in the mailing list:

1. removed /etc/dec_* and cleared out the /etc/df* files.
2. Rebooted the system and ran dsfmgr -K

This did not resolve the issue. Have also tried a

hwmgr -refresh component
hwmgr -scan component.

My question is, why has this device got a HWID -1 and how can
I get the system to recognise it.

Best Regards
Andy
