Copying users to 5.0 system

I've installed a new (full install) Tru64 5.0 system. I want to copy
the users from an existing 4.0d system. Both systems are running
enhanced security.

Copying the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files was pretty straightforward,
but I'm having a lot of trouble recreating the protected password database.
I tried copying the /tcb/files/auth tree from the old system to the new
one and doing a:

    convauth -d p

which gave warnings that /tcb/files/auth.db and /var/tcb/files/auth.db
already existed and didn't update them. So then I tried renaming those
files and running the command again. This time it happily created the
auth.db files, but they were empty. My next attempt was to run the
convauth on the 4.0d system. This worked and created auth.db files
with data in them, but when I copy those files to the 5.0 system
they don't work. authchk give an odd error about "database file
already exists" and logins don't work with the new files, they give
an error about "invalid file type".

I've pretty much exhausted all the avenues I can think of to get this
(what should be fairly simple) process to work. Has anyone done this
successfully, and if so can you tell me what I'm doing wrong.

  As always, thanks in advance.
