Single Bus vrs Dual Bus

Can someone please educate me on the advantages of a dual bus vrs a
single bus. I have a Alpha 2100A which has two storageworks shelf and
are on a dual bus. This means that I can only put 4 disk drives on
each instead of 8...correct? If I change it over to a single bus I
could then put 8 disks in each shelf? I would suppose there is an
advantage to the dual bus probably being speed but I am not sure and I
need to add disk space to our machine very soon. At the present time,
one shelf contains 4 drives in every other bay and the other shelf
contains 2 disk drives and a TZ88 DLT tape drive meaning they are both
full. One shelf is a BA350x and the other a BA35E. I guess my
question is would I be unwise to switch it to a single bus to gain disk
space???

any info appreciated....Ill summarize.
