I asked if anyone knew when:
Tru64 Unix File Systems Administration Handbook
by Steve Hancock
which I had noticed on Amazon.com, will be published. I got
a number of answers, including one from the author.
Thanks to all who responded, and I look forward to the book's
appearance.

>From Steve Hancock <shancock_at_zk3.dec.com>:
Hi Jerome,
Thanks for asking about my forthcoming book ...
The book is currently in the final stages of publication. The
latest information I have from Digital Press is the book should
be on the shelves by mid-summer. The delay in publishing was due
primarily to my lateness in getting the manuscript to the publisher
by the original deadline. I felt the book was not ready at that
time, so DP gave me some extra time with it. I apologize for that,
but I think the result will be worth the wait.
As far as what I cover ... it is designed to be comprehensive;
including everything from the basics (creating file systems) to
quite advanced (tuning and troubleshooting). I think the text will
be useful as a reference guide and for those looking to learn how to
really get the most out of their Tru64 UNIX file systems. I have
included lots (hundreds) of practical examples to make understanding
the concepts as easy as possible.
The book was geared to TruCluster 5.x, but I try to point out where things
are applicable to prior versions. I focus on AdvFS, but I have an
entire chapter devoted to UFS. The Table of Contents will be the
following:
Ch. 1 Introduction
Ch. 2 Storage and Device Management
Ch. 3 Logical Storage Manager
Ch. 4 File Systems Architecture (VFS)
Ch. 5 UNIX File System
Ch. 6 Intro to AdvFS
Ch. 7 Advanced Topics in AdvFS
Ch. 8 Configuration and Tuning
Ch. 9 Troubleshooting and Recovery
App A Freeware Tools
App B AdvFS Advanced Tools
App C Fsck Operation

1. I checked with SoftPro (a bookseller w/ stores in suburban Boston
and Denver) and their latest info is May.
2. fatbrain.com has it on pre-order for 20% off vs amazon's 15%.

No, I have been waiting for this too and they keep pushing out the
publication date.
I am using Matthew Cheek's book (Digital Unix System Admin's Guide) and it's
pretty good ... ISBN 1-55558-199-4
(Note - Cheek's book is a general Tru64 book, not focused on file
systems - Jerry)

>From Leslie Irwin, Rockwell Colllins, llirwin_at_collins.rockwell.com:
I just found this book out on the barnes and noble site. Says it was published
in January 2000 and ships in 1 to 2 weeks. It's also a little cheaper at
$29.56.
