multiple nic question

I have a GS140 running 4.0f. It has two nic's configured with seperate
ip's (not using NetRAIN), A and B. I can ping both ip's from a remote
host. If I disconnect B, I can ping A but not B. If I disconnect A, a
can't ping A or B. Is there a 'primary' interface that has to be up or
something?
