SUMMARY: urgent requirement for file transfer.

We needed to get a file from a floppy to a PDP11 running RSTS via Alpha if
appropriate.

Thanks to the many replies most of which said - in the absence of ftp or
DECNET - that Kermit was the right route. We did have it on the PDP11 one
time but have lost it so getting it back on when we dont have a route from
the alpha to the pdp is ..... (circular?)

However a local site helped out by loaning us a DEC scsi 9 track portable
(sort of), and we put that on a spare Alpha, read in thje floppy and wrote
out to the tape. Longer term we have to get kermit up and running on the
pdp and either an alpha or a pc.

We do not allow the PDPs to be connected to the alphas directly as the
latter are all internet m/cs and the pdp's contain payroll data for most
of the Isle of Man - best security is no connection.

Thanks again
