  All,

I have a need to clone versions of v5.0 OS disks
to put on other systems. (This cuts down on installation
time). Since V5.0 has changed the disk structure and
is now adding the ID tags to the disk, I have found
this to no longer works.

In the past (v4.0X), I was able to clone a disk via
the following sequences:

newfs /dev/rrzXa rz29b
mount /dev/rzXa /mnt
/sbin/vdump -0uf - / | (cd /mnt; /sbin/vrestore -xf -)
umount /mnt

newfs /dev/rrzXg rz29b
mount /dev/rzXg /mnt
/sbin/vdump -0uf - /usr | (cd /mnt; /sbin/vrestore -xf -)
umount /mnt

disklabel -sF /dev/rrzXb swap

After this, all I had to do was put the newly created
disk in the new alpha, boot, do a doconfig, change IP's,
update with the correct license's and we were pretty much
ready to go. This ensures that all systems have the
same software and patches. I saw info about cloning
but did not gather that this covers what I am wanting
to do.

Has anyone cloned a v5.0 disk and booted on another
system with any success ??? Any pointers are greatly
appreciated.

  Thanks,
  Gaylon Stockman
