Hi all,
Prior to my issue, i would like to put to all managers that this list is nice and good. I suggest that it would be nice if the initiator of the email compiles the solution as suggested by the managers and finally release a email so that everyone who is passive can gain knowledge.
I got replies from Dr. Thomas P. Blinn ,andreas bunten, Mitch Kulberg,John losley, alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com. Thanks and lot of questions had been raised. I give more info below:
scu
scu> scan edt
Scanning all available buses, please be patient...
scu> show edt
CAM Equipment Device Table (EDT) Information:
Device: CD-ROM XM-5301TA Bus: 0, Target: 3, Lun: 0, Type: Read-Only Direct Access
Device: TLZ07 Bus: 0, Target: 4, Lun: 0, Type: Sequential Access
# mount -r /dev/rz3c /mnt
/dev/rz3c on /mnt: I/O error
On checking the config file for the kernel to to make sure that we have the following entry "CDFS"
/usr/sys/conf> and we do.
The show device on boot prompt shows the cd rom drive.
The scanning of /var/adm/messages shows
May 7 05:22:14 gw vmunix: rz3 at scsi0 target 3 lun 0 (LID=0) (TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-5301TA 0436)
The /etc/dev/MAKEDEV rz3 makes device special files on the /dev directory.
Still I could not mount the cd-rom drive and read files. The Dec guide state to find the device file using:
file /dev/rrz*c | grep RRD which should show me the related device file for the installed cd rom.
I am also in touch with compaq and they are suggesting to change the cd-rom drive itself. I will summarise once I get solution for this problem.
Thanks.
