Folks,
I am currently reviewing the state of the KVM market and trying to
figure out what sorts of switches will work well in a mixed environment of
Alpha systems (ranging from an AlphaStation 400 4/233 to an XP1000) and
Intel servers running Solaris X86.
A review of the list archive seems to indicate a fair consensus that
Raritan and Cybex switches are best-suited for Alphas and have known
reliability. However, these are somewhat pricey both for the switch and
the proprietary cabling.
I am interested in the lower cost Belkin Omniview Pro switches. The 4
port (F1D104-0SD) and 8 port (F1D108-0SD) models are of particular
interest. I'm pretty sure these are suitable for my Intel boxes, but
can't reach the same comfort level for Alphas. The features touted
include:
* dedicated processor for each port to handle mouse and keyboard
emulation
* broad mouse support (Intellimouse & Logitech)
* inexpensive, standard cabling
* switch has dedicated power
* good range of resolution and refresh rates handled
Has anyone used these switches with success or otherwise evaluated them
for the Tru64 environment? What are their limitations across the range of
Alpha products? Do they function well with CDE?
Thanks,
-- BobJ
