TRU64 Version 5.0 CDE root access from desktop

After upgrading to Version 5.0 I cannot log in as root from my PC, it doesn't recogize the password. After the upgrade the system message when I logged in at the console stated that I did not have a password and I had to create a new one, but from the desktop it will not recogize this new password?
