SUMMARY: Which Netscape under 4.0E.

Dear all,

thanks to Nikola Milutinovic, Olle Eriksson, Magali BERNARD, Tom Blinn
and "richf".

The problem was that we have Open3D installed and a Powerstorm
4D60T. Setting the DISPLAY variable to 'local:0' seems to cure the
problem - at least 'netscape' hasn't crashed yet.

Thanks again

Clemens Vonrhein

I'm having problems running netscape under Digital Unix 4.0E. I tried
several versions I could find on the net:

  communicator-v408.alpha-dec-osf3.2
  communicator-v46.alpha-dec-osf4.0
  communicator-v461.alpha-dec-osf4.0
  communicator-v47.alpha-dec-osf4.0
  communicator-v472.alpha-dec-osf4.0
  navigator-v472.alpha-dec-osf4.0

They all behave identical to the version that comes shipped with
4.0E. As soon as I use the scroll bar on the right it just
crashes. However, I can avoid it if I go *really* slow. But obviously,
that's not an ideal solution ...

I read in some posts about font or Java problems but these crashes
happen even in directory listing. I can use the same netscape binary
without problems on the same machine if I use a remote machine as
display (running Tru64, Linux or IRIX - doesn't matter). I can also
run e.g. netscape on a SGI with the Compaq machine as display - no
problem.
