> cabinet. It's designed with write-back cache and in support of this is a
> UPS. The computer room that this is going into is on a UPS and some
people
> here feel that one can't or shouldn't have a UPS on a system that's in
room
> that is already on UPS. Does anybody have an opinion on this? If we
can't
> have this UPS on the cabinet I'd turn off write-back cache and have it run
> in direct write-through mode.

Summary of Replies:

The consensus was that it would be ok. There were two respondents who felt
that it wouldn't be ok: one felt that each UPS could adversely affect the
other UPS while the other respondent actually had a bad experience doing
this. Everybody else (about 10 - 12 people) either had direct experience
doing this or felt that there shouldn't be any problem doing this.

Additionally, Compaq says it's ok (though I did not call Deltec, the
manufacturer of the UPS, for their opinion).

I spoke to my company's electrician who also felt that it would be ok.

P.S.
Since this RA3000 has 2 redundant power supplies we are going to 'dual-home'
them. That is plug one power supply into a circuit that is on one UPS and
plug the other power supply into another circuit that is on a different UPS.

Thanks everyone.
