Kernel re-build needed for new KZPAC-CB controller???

We just replaced a faulty KZPAC-CB with a new one. The old controller
had firmware version 2.47 and the new one has version 2.7. Is it
recommended to rebuild the kernel after such a change in hardware (and
firmware) has taken place? We don't do this type of thing very often.
