Thanks to all who helped:

Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646 [tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com]
Sean O'Connell [sean_at_stat.Duke.EDU]
Serguei Patchkovskii [patchkov_at_ucalgary.ca]
The problem was, like all said and here with the words of Serguei:
>> bootp: request failed, errno=60
>> whoami: no host name
>> panic (cpu 0): vfs_mountroot: cannot mount root
>
> errno=60 is ETIMEDOUT, indicating that the booting system didn't get a response
> to a bootp broadcast requesting it's host name. As a consequence, it was unable
> to NFS mount the root file system, and panic'ed.
Installation cloning was far away of the problem. I could not boot into the RIS area.
Situation:
- all RIS areas where correct in /etc/exports.
- Client to install was in /etc/hosts
- rsh was enabled in /etc/inetd.conf of the RIS server
- mountd was running on the RIS server, also joind via /etc/inetd.conf
As Tom Blinn suggested to start with a completely new RIS area and
re-registering the client to this without installation cloning,
I run into the same problem:
> bootp: request failed, errno=60
> whoami: no host name
Then I looked over the patchkit of my RIS server: DUX 4.0f patchkit 2.
Thatīs why Iīve installed the following patches from patchkit 3:
OSFPAT00023300440: correction of /usr/sbin/ris
OSFPAT00028500440: This patch fixes a problem of the joind daemon not
appending the hostname to the load file specified
in "bf" flag in the /etc/bootptab file
and some other problems regarding DHCP, DECnet and bprelay
After installation of these patches I was able to boot the client into the RIS area
and to get the installation menu.
But installation cloning seems to be still far away, because of problems in
adapting my install.cdf (from a CD-ROM installation) to an RIS installation:
After the succesful run of preinstall (disklabel) and creating the filesystems
(from install.cdf), the process failed to load the software:
> "The installation procedure was not able to correctly install the mandatory software subsets"
Thanks to all
