Many thanks to Alan, Jef, Judith, Stephen, Ben, Scott, Rochelle,
Gregory, Martin and Hank who replyied to my question:
> does anyone know if HSZ70 RAID Array Controller supports 36 Gb
DS-RZ21FC-VW disk drives?
As Alan said, the right part number was DS-RZ1FC-VW, and the device type
supported depends on the firmware level (HSOF) too, not just the
hardware.
Martin said: "The 36GB disks DS-RZ1FB-VW/DS-RZ1FC-VW are supported (see
Compaq SPD 64.81.08) with HSZ70 and HSOF V7.7z.
There are also inoffical statements that they are working okay even with
V7.3z."
Hank said: "Check your firmware on the controllers. I'm old v7.3 and up
will support it, but 7.3 has some bugs. I upgraded mine to 7.7 before
plugging in the 36GB disks."
I was also interested about a 36Gb hot spare device in a cabinet with
18Gb based raidset.
About that Stephen said: "A 36Gb disk is fine as a hot spare for
anything which will fit but it is a waste of space as, in your case,
only 18Gb would be used and the remaining 18Gb would not be available
for any other purpose."
