Dear Tru-64 managers:

I have questions questions regarding firmware upgrades---

The firmware upgrade information I've been able to find is:

ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/readmes/v5.7/doc/alpha2100_
v53_fw_relnote.pdf

I believe Section B.6 is what I'm looking for because I upgraded my server from a 4/xxx to a 5/300.

I am running RAID, but until I can get the funds for several discs, I'll set it to RAID level 0.

Present setup also has: UNIX V4.0, Firmware CD release V3.6

In Section B.7, the revision matrix starts with CD V3.6 and ends with V4.0:

    V3.6(May-96)

    V4.6A(Oct-96)

    V3.8(Dec-96)

    V4.0(Aug-97) With UNIX 4.0B

Question-1:

Do I presume that I have to do firmware changes progressively through each Version?

Question-2:

Why the brief change to V4.6A--Is that a Typo rather than V3.6A?

Question-3:

I know DEC UNIX went through V4.0a. Then do I presume that I can go directly to V3.8 using UNIX V4.0, then change to V4.0B with firmware V4.0?

Question-4:

Why no later firmware updates after V4.0?

Question-5 :

What if I do a clean install to Tru64 UNIX 4.0D?,
can I go directly to the latest firmware release for that version (from current v3.6 to v5.4) without any snags?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Regards,

-CK
