I/O Question

We seem to be having possible network problem or sendmail problems I'm not
100% sure which.

What does the following mean in my sendmail mailq?

QAA04780* 230317 Mon Jul 17 16:45 <renee_at_xyz.com>
                 (I/O error)

renee is a local user at our domain locally of xyz.com.

What does the I/O error mean?
