Dear Tru64ers,

Thanks to Mary Freesmeyer, Mitch Bertone and Nikola Milutinovic for
replying. All 3 recommended throwing away the tape.

Nikola also suggested reporting the problem to Compaq; re rightly
points out that "vrestore" shouldn't dump core
(memory fault), no matter what it reads from the tape. If anyone from
Compaq is listening and is interested then I can send a core file.

[ I won't report it formally: my experience of submitting bug reports
to Compaq has been pretty negative. ]

Original problem:
  /sbin/vrestore -t -f /dev/nrmt0h >/dev/null
failed with

vrestore: unable to read from device '/dev/nrmt0h'; incomplete read
20480 < 61440
vrestore: unable to restore block <2193>; corrupt block
/usr/adm/dumps/users/weekly.dump[178]: 29510 Memory fault

Regards,
Bob
