Dear Tru64 Folks,
Hi. I've spoken to a couple of resellers about trying this but get conflicting
pieces of information, so I'm turning to the people who have real world
experience to find out the correct information.
Ideally, what I would like to do is cluster an AlphaStation 600A 5/500 with
an AlphaServer DS20E 6/667 via TruCluster 5.0a. This is a low-end SCSI cluster
connecting the two hosts to a RA3000. This is not a mission critical
system. (although some of my users might disagree with that :-)) From a
hardware perspective, clustering these two systems doesn't seem to be a
problem (please correct me if I'm wrong).
However, AlphaStations are not listed in the TruCluster 5.0a SPD as being
supported. The interesting thing is that I've been told by one reseller that
if we have a Server Extension License on the AlphaStation we will be able to
run the TruCluster Server software. They received this information from
Compaq. However, it is not a configuration that Compaq would officially
support. Another reseller told me that the Server Extension License would not
enable the TruCluster software to run on the AlphaStation. This reseller
received that tidbit from Compaq as well. Argh.
So, if you have successfully clustered an AlphaServer and an AlphaStation
together using TruCluster 5.0a please let me know. If what I am proposing is
not feasible, please let me know. What are the caveats to this? I will
summarize and post the results to the list.
Thanks for your help,
