Hi -
The answer is that SWCC ver 2.1 is not compatible with the RA3000. I
uninstalled 2.1 and re-installed 2.0 and it now works fine.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to give me suggestions.
Original question:
===========
We have an RA3000 connected to a DS20E Tru64 4.0F box. We've loaded
StorageWorks Command Console 2.1 Client onto an NT4.0 box and we've loaded
the 2.1 Agent onto the Unix box. When we try to connect the client to the
agent via tcp/ip (i.e. -- add a system) we get a message:
Access denied. You do not have permission to access the host.
When I configured the Agent I entered a password for the subsystem but
there's nothing in the client that allows me to enter a password. I also
configured the Agent to allow access from the client (my desktop) I'm
working on. I also added an entry for the client in the /etc/hosts.equiv
file but to no avail? The documentation (such as it is) doesn't address
client to agent 'permissions'.
Suggestions:
========
the password is only for when you execute certain commands - take a look at
the messages file as well as the daemon.log in syslog.dated. Make sure that
you specify the entire fully qualified domain name for the pc in the
'allowed' field, make sure that the unix box can do a ping to that name
explicitly, and make sure you are not using dhcp.
=====
insert on client ( NT4.0)
in file :
\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\host
Ip address and the name of server.
That will fix youre problem
=====
Try an entry in /etc/hosts. I'm pretty sure I had to enter the client's
address there (DNS only, I doubt a DHCP address will work) in
order to get SWCC to work.
=====
Problem
Access denied when starting SWCC
Action
Found that RA230 Agent was installed on system.
Solution
Deinstall RA230 Agent and install HSX Agent. Configuer Agent and connect
with SWCC 2.1 Client over network. OK
=====
Did you run the clientadd script on the UNIX system? ie
/usr/opt/SWCC204/scripts/clientadd or whatever your path is to the software.
There are other scripts to run to setup the storageworks stuff on the Alpha
system, did you run those? I have set up a client before but not the entire
agent.
=====
Look in /usr/opt/SWCC???/etc/client.ini, what permissions did you set on
your hostname?
=====
My client.ini looks like this:
host01.domain.com|1|2
=====
You also have to restart steamd with the steamstart and steamstop scripts
after your have added a client.
=====
How did you specify the client name when you configured the agent? I use
the fully qualified DNS name.
Thanks again!
