Dear Managers

There is some help required from you.

As part of an implementation of Oracle Applications
(ERP), we are required to read files created by the
legacy system and upload the data into Oracle tables.

The present system operates on Digital VAX machines
with VMS as the operating system. The legacy
applications have been written using COBOL. The files
are created by these applications in the VMS
environment and then transferred to the UNIX machine
where the Oracle database is placed.

The problem is with the reading of these files. The
files are created in ascii text format but with in the
files some of the character fields are in compressed
format. We want to know if these compressed fields can
be read in UNIX environment using either C code or
PL/SQL database code. It would be great help if
someone can explain the process with help of a sample
code.

The field type description of these fields is as
given below

comp PIC S9(11)V9(7) COMP

comp PIC 9(4)V9(4) COMP

comp PIC S9(18) COMP

A sample content of one of these files is also given
below :

0000018070012571?_at_Ԟ CSH-3743Aurora Cash
Batch 003743 ]: # USD 00000650455-

Thanks and regards
Reddy
