SBB disk problem

Hi Managers,
We have 2 storage works towers on a DEC Alpha 4.0D. One
connected to the on-board turbo module and the other to a dual
channel turbo card (PMAZC). This latter tower is nearly full of
disks, a mixture of wide and narrow disk from 2.1 to 9.1GB. I am
trying to fill the last vacate slot with another 9Gb disk. the dev was
made, the label created, and the disk installed. A trial copy was
made and there were no problems. The next day user's running a
program off of one of the disks kept crashing. uerf showing lots of
cam errors. I have had these before after the last disk I installed
and resolved it by getting a shorter cable. So I got a 1M cable and
tried again. This time the system would not boot and I got CCB
errors and the system got into a loop trying to reset the bus. It
tested the cable elsewhere and also used another 1M cable. Still
the same problem. Finally I had to set the system back to its old
config. The only possible reason for this that can see is the mixture
of disks. Could this be the reason? The are spaced out unevenly
with wide SCSI disk inbetween narrow. I would like to put them
altogether but I am not sure whether I should have the narrow at the
end of the bus or at the beginning. Alternatively I could simply
replace the 2.1 GB with 9.1 Gb Wide disks. To do this do I need to
disklabel -z the existing disk label and then disk
label -rw rzxx RZ1DA to be able to swap the 2 disks?

Thanx
Dp.
