CDE "Style Manager" Colors

This is a whacky one... which of course, USED to work.

Digital Unix 4.0F running on Compaq Xp1000 with a Elsa Gloria 8Mb Comet frame
buffer installed.

Within the CDE desktop, one uses Style_Managers/Colors to either select preset
palettes or "Modify" to customize the colors for their display. Typically, when
selecting the preset palettes, the screen/icons change to the palette selected.
(So the user can get a feel if this represents their personality or not)

Whats happening to me:
Now when the user selects any preset palette, the screen/icons will not change
as various palettes are tried. In additon, the buttons that enable the user to
customize their colors are greyed out. (Unselectable that is) Right now the only
thing the user can do is select a palette, save it and it will be used upon the
next login.

I've even gone as far as use setld to remove the package "CDE Desktop
Environment" followed by a reload, however no luck.

Any thoughts on what might be contributing to this problem.

Thanks
/mark
