more than 4 ethernet interfaces

Does anyone have a system with more than 4 ethernet interfaces working ? We
cannot get over 4 to work. Any hints /tricks or advice of its possibility
would be helpful.

System in question is a DS20E using Version 4.0F. using (2) quad-card
ethernet controllers (DE504-BA).
