Tape drive curiosity

Greetings, when I arrived at work this week I faced the horror of
discovering a dead system disk in one of our old DEC 3000. After much
wailing and gnashing of teeth trying to repair it, we pulled it out and
installed a new copy of Tru64, using it as an excuse to upgrade to 4.0G.
Most of the little bugs we have ironed out, but there is still one which
has us confused.

The machine has a tape drive on it, hanging off the external SCSI bus as
device 0. The system finds it when it boots, giving the following line in
the messages file
Sep 19 22:10:37 signori vmunix: tz8 at scsi1 target 0 lun 0 (LID=3) (DEC
 TLZ07 (C)DEC 553B)

But I can find no reference to any tape devices in the /dev directory. I
expected it to be there as tz8 or at least tz(?) but there are no listings.
Under the old OS (Sorry, not sure which version of Tru64) it was listed as
/dev/tape/tape0 but this isn't there either.

Does anyone have any suggestions, do I need to install something extra
that I missed?

        Cheers,
                Ryan.
