Hello,

I have an Oracle problem that I need help with. Several replies said
that they felt it ok to ask on this list since it pertains to DU, if its
not appropriate here I apologize in advance.

I have inherited the sysadmin job for Oracle on an Alpha 2100A running
4.0f. I have worked extensively with Unify for the past 13 years but
never with Oracle. I was given the task of upgrading from 8.0.4 to
8.0.6. The installation went fine but now I get the following errors.

I changed all the Environment Variables to point to the new installation
and did the following:

lsnrctl start
   and
dbstart

The dbstart gives me the following error:
 TNS:service name is incorrectly specified

Other than that everything seems normal. When I do a sqlplus everything
points to the upgraded version, but when I try to login I get :
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

Any ideas of what to look for would be appreciated!
