Thanks to all, who answered me.

The most of them told me to take qpopper from

http://www.eudora.com/qpopper/ :

Iwao MAKINO <makino_at_hpc.co.jp>

Vangelis Haniotakis <haniotak_at_ucnet.uoc.gr>

Michael Richter <richter_at_chemie.uni-hamburg.de>

He also told me to try POP3 over SSL, called POP3S, for security reasons

J Bacher <jb_at_jbacher.com>

Brian Hostetter <BrianH_at_dice.com>

He prefer Ipop because he has had better success with Ipop

Joao Marcio Leonel <joaoleo_at_if.usp.br>

Nikola Milutinovic <Nikola.Milutinovic_at_ev.co.yu>

Ian Mortimer <ian_at_physics.uq.edu.au>

two of them proposed to take the one of the University of washington :

Richard C Bond <rbond_at_mbt.washington.edu>

Paul.Casteels <casteels_at_uia.ua.ac.be>

--------------------------------------------

Rolf-Peter Kienzle <kienzlep_at_uni-freiburg.de>

He advised again all versions of pop and told me to take IMAP from

ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/imap

---------------------------------------------

Paolo Lucente <vertigo_at_newnet.dada.it>

had a lot of usefull advices and propose GNUPop3d

-----------------------------------------------------

O.k., because it was so simple and I've only a few users within the
university which will use it, I took qpopper from
http://www.eudora.com/qpopper/, installed it (with the instructions in the
INSTALL file) without any changes and it works fine for me.

Thanks again for all your advices. With your help it was no problem to
install popd and it works fine (till now !)

my original mail :

Hallo,

another call for your qualified help :

I must install a pop Daemon.
Shall I use the popd from true64 or is there another free one, which is
better / more secure ?

Thanks for your help
