>From what I can gather, the way that monitor power management was
implemented in the DPW500au/4D20 situation, while utilizing DPMS signaling
to the monitor, used "proprietary" mechanisms to trigger the power
management activities. With the advent of ACPI there would need to be a
different set of widgets (other than dxpower et. al.) to do this, and
apparently for the XP1000/PS350/Tru64 combo there ain't no such beast(s)
(yet?). I found vague references in some hardware docs for setting power
management features in firmware, but apparently only if you using AlphaBIOS
vs. SRM (which is not available for my 667Mhz XP1000 even if I wanted to run
WNT on it). So I guess I'm SOL for now. Luckily for me that I can except
myself from the institution-wide policy of nightly system shutdowns for
"desktop" systems that don't support power management...even luckier that
the DPW500au in this case is my home system...

Subject: power management question

Two workstations both running V5.0a no patches:
1. DPW500au with 4D20 graphics
2. XP1000 with PowerStorm 350 graphics

on the first system, dxpower gives me all the expected options for monitor
power management while on the second dxpower only offers me disk management
options. Question is why would this work on a much older (essentially
retired) system and not the much newer one? I could not find this behavior
documented anywhere (perhaps I'm not looking at the right stuff?)...

TIA
