XP1000, KZPCA and EXB-8900: They are not getting along too well...

Experts,

I just got an XP1000, running the factory loaded Tru64 5.0A.
Separately, I bought from Compaq 3 disk drives, which I installed
internally via the embedded controller.

I also bought a SN-KZPCA-AX Ultra2 SCSI LVD controller to
communicate with two brand new drives, an Exabyte EXB-8900 and
a Quantum DLT8000. Upon installation of the controller,
genvmunix was run to generate a new kernel with support for the
KZPCA.

When the external tape drives are connected, both are seen at
the ">>>" prompt via "show dev". During boot up, the following
errors occur:

                         scsi1: SCSI Error for target 0 sist0 =
                          _0x41
                         cam_logger: SCSI event packet
                         cam_logger: bus 1
                         itpsa SCSI HBA
                         SCSI Error for target 0 sist0 = 0x41

                         scsi1: HTH intr. on bus 1, SBCL = 0xa3
                         cam_logger: SCSI event packet
                         cam_logger: bus 1
                         itpsa SCSI HBA
HTH intr. on bus 1, SBCL = 0xa3

                         scsi1: SCSI Bus was reset
                         cam_logger: SCSI event packet
                         cam_logger: bus 1
                         itpsa SCSI HBA
                         SCSI Bus was reset

The sequence is repeated once, and the boot proceeds. Once the OS
is loaded, hwmgr shows the DLT drive, but does not show the EXB.
During the boot process, the LCD in the EXB drive shows that a
Reset has been detected. Afterwards, the LCD shows Ready. No
error conditions are shown in the front LEDs.

The boot up errors occur any time the EXB is on the external
SCSI bus, either by itself or together with the DLT drive.
Everything works OK when the DLT is on the bus by itself. The
EXB by itself has been tried out a number of times, with various
permutations of cables and terminators, but no change in
behavior.

Since the controller and the DLT work, Compaq tech suppt says I
have an issue with Exabyte. Since the drive's lights and LCD
show no error condition, Exabyte says I must have a configuration
problem. Technical suppt at LSI (the KZPCA manufacturer) was
also very attentive, but have no inkling as to what may be
transpiring.

So my only hope are the gurus here... Any suggestions as what
may be going on?

Many thanks in advance,
Enrique
