Clarify: "Can't update alphaserver 400 to v5.7 firmware

I posted about not being able to upgrade alphaserver 400
to v5.7 firmware. The two responses I've rec'd so far (thanks)
both asked about the jumper on the CPU board needing to
be enabled for firmware update.

I forgot to mention that I'd updated it to v5.4 immediately
before trying the v5.7 update, so the jumper has to be
enabled.

To: tru64-unix-managers_at_ornl.gov

We have one alphaserver 400 that will not allow us to
update firmware from v5.4 to v5.7, while several others
updated with no problem.

I boot the firmware cd, and get the update menu.
I then issue commands, but:
        "update" returns with no response
        "list" returns:
                ROM devices supported 28F020 Intel/Amd Flashmem
        "verify" returns with no response
        "debug" and then "update" gives:
                ver=v7.0-9
                vendor=dec
                prod=avanti
                firm=avanti_SRM
So, it's not like it fails, really, it just does nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on and
how to get this to work?

TIA...
