Greetings folks-
I have an AlphaServer 4100 running Tru64 4.0d, and it generally is very happy
processing the scads of email we get every day. However, about once a week
or so,
all sendmail processing hangs and the sendmail processes accumulate in the
"U" state,
which according to the 'ps' man page means it is a "Uninterruptible sleeping
process".
The processes can't be terminated with a kill -9, and they don't seem to go
away on
their own. The only way I can get rid of them is to reboot.
At first I thought it might be a hardware problem, but there are no reported
errors
in the binary.error log, nor in the syslog. We have a 2 node cluster, and
this
behavor has occured on each node from time to time.
I'd appreciate any information regarding such occurances from anyone else on
the
Tru64 OS. I have some sample output from today when this occured.
