Hi,
Looks like its not going to happen... BUT I can rename the device
special files with dsfmgr -m. I couldnt do this without running a dsfmgr -K
first wich was interesting but fixed now.

"There is no way to re-use a hardware ID automatically. [...] When a new
hardware ID is being assigned, we assign the next hardware ID that has NEVER
been assigned. We don't look for "available" hardware IDs because the
hardware IDs that seem to be available may be in use on a system in the
cluster that is currently not up."
^^^ This I should have thought of. ;-( silly me!!!
and to:
Colin Walters - Compaq UNIX Business Segment :
"At present (V5.1A) the answer is that there is no easy way to reset the
HWID to a lower integer except after a complete re-installation. Even then,
you have to ensure that the system cannot read the device databases, which
can be found and reused by a new installation."
