It can be as simple as adding the "correct" line to ~$USER/.Xdefaults...
For example "Dtterm*pointerShape: arrow" which I tried before posting however
failed to use a capital "D". This works just fine.
Review /usr/dt/app-defaults/C/Dtterm, which is the system wide application
default file for Dtterm. It explains more of the bits and pieces.
When customizing CDE you might have to set (and remember to reload with
xrdb) such resources in the dt (or .dt for local changes) directories
and files. For example, to create a system-wide custom workspace manager
config file, you copy files from /usr/dt/config.... to /etc/dt/config
and customize them.
And of course don't forget this information is in the CDE Advanced User's Guide,
available online at the URL below for your version of the OS.
