advfs error/stupid networking question

Tru 64 guru's

First off, My apologies if this turns out to be a truly trivial and stupid question, as I am very new to alpha's, and TRU 64 in general.

The stupid networking question is just a request for any link or document that details the files/tools/methods of setting up networking on an alpha running TRU 64 4.0

When I login to my alpha via serial console, I get an error that say this:

# AdvFS I/O error:
    Domain#Fileset: usr_domain#usr
    Mounted on: /usr
    Volume: /dev/rz0g
    Tag: 0x00005585.8001
    Page: 0
    Block: 1820880
    Block count: 16
    Type of operation: Read
    Error: 5
To obtain the name of the file on which
the error occurred, type the command:
    /sbin/advfs/tag2name /usr/.tags/21893

when I enter the command requested, the output is : /usr/opt/MME244/shlib
(this is a directory)

I'm so new I don't even know how to get all the info I would want, but the output of uname -a is: OSF1 alpha-1 V4.0 1229 alpha
and I appear to be running: Digital UNIX V4.0F (Rev. 1229)

I did do some reading about this, and found that i would need to run verify, or salvage, or both but I had a kind of hard time finding any good docs (looking in the wrong place perhaps?)

After I did the reading, and reached the point where I realized that if I hosed the FS, it would really suck.. and I would hate it, I also realized that *not* doing anything wouldn't fix it either, so I did what was likely the wrong thing, and in RL 1 with /usr unmounted, I ran "verify -v usr_domain" this ran for a really long time, spewing enough lines to overrun a 10000 line buffer in my terminal window, and when it ended, nothing appeared to be fixed, based on the same error appearing when I first login. Can anyone shed any light one this.. and perhaps help me out with any links regarding sysadmin for the alpha/Tru64 platform. (note: I'm not unix stupid, just DEC ignorant)

Thanks for any help
