The original problem was:
After doing a full install of 4.0f the NIS stuff quit working. I could
su to another NIS user as root but could not login as the NIS user.
I got a few replies suggesting various things but finally figured out
that the problem was I needed to convert from BASE SECURITY TO ENHANCED
SECURITY. This solved the problem.
