For those who might be interested, i posted a question
on killing idle uses. I forgot to include this with
the summary:
The pricing varies from $300 to $1200 depending on
size of the system. The people at info_at_computron.com
will send out demos, or LOGMON can b downloaded from
their website, www.computron.com
A potential problem with idled is that it uses the
Unix
definition of idle time. This definition is based on
access to the user's tty. Thus a user running a long,
cpu
bound job _is_ considered idle by idled. At many
sites this
is an issue, particularly if the inactivity time is
short.
Our company wrote/sells a product called LOGMON that
solves
this problem and addresses several other matters.
This
software monitors the cpu usage for each user, and
their
child processes. That way we can be sure the user
really
is idle.
You can vary the inactivity time by user, time of day,
tty,
the application in use, or a combination of these.
You can
control how the user is logged off and what messages
are sent.
A monitor screen can be used to see how long people
are idle.
To get more details send a message to
