Hi
DO NOT ISSUE THE CONSVAR -G EWA0_MODE COMMAND.
Our setup includes two dec alpha DS20E (System A and System B)
that are in a clustered environment (V1.6)
We found the consvar command and read the man pages and
did a consvar -l and sure enough the ewa0_mode variable was not there.
But we new it existed. We tried consvar -l ewa0_mode and the
variable and its setting are listed. So if we can see it, we should be able
to set it.
consvar -g ewa_mode <value>. return
This is a really really bad thing to do, we not only crashed the system we
issued our command
on, but the other member crashed due to a scsi bus timeout.
It turns out if the variable does not show up in the "consvar -l" command do
not try to
set it.
We have since found out from compaq that is a undocumented feature, and they
are going
to update the man page appropriately

Subject: SUMMARY: NIC Configuration
Hello -
I have older alpha 4100s with 4.0D PK4. I looked through consvar before I
posted to the group and I tried the suggested command below, and I can not
retrieve the value. The returned info is "failed to get ewa0_mode". I did
a "consvar -l" earlier to get a complete listing and the nics are not an
option. I am at firmware update 5.8, too. So, I don't know???
The suggested command:
consvar -g ewa0_mode
This command must work because several people have suggested this, but my
systems / OS must be too far out of date.
Thanks,
Thomas A. Kemp
