SUMMARY: How to set IP address on a DEC Laser 3500 Printer ?

Once more this list turned out to be the ultimate source for DEC wisdom ! :)
Thanks a lot to Hal Kuff [Kuff_at_tessco.com], Tru64 User [tru64user_at_yahoo.com]
(whoever this might be :), Colin Walters [walters_at_zk3.dec.com] and especialy
Werner Rost [Werner.Rost_at_boge.mannesmann.de] who gave me the final solution.

The Procedure looks a lot like what we had to do on those old ethernet
printservers... in Detail:


* First you have to reset the Ethernet card to the factory defaults:

1) Power off the printer and remove the network card
2) Locate jumper 6
3) Move jumper 6 to the ON position (so that the jumper covers the center
pin and the pin nearest the JP6 designator)
4) Install the network card, but do not install the mounting screw
5) Slide the assembly into the printer, but do not connect the printer to
the network
6) Power on the printer. The network card performs it´s self test, the green
LED flashes 3 times, then pauses, and then repeats the pattern. When you see
this pattern, power off the printer
7) Remove the assembly from the printer, and then remove the network card
from the assembly.
8) Move Jumper 6 to it´s off position (so that the jumper covers the center
pin and the pin nearest to the OFF designation)
9) Install the network card

* After this procedure, the network interface is ready to recieve the new IP
address:

1) arp -s <ip-address> <hardware-adress>
2) Power on (DecLaser 3500)
3) ping <ip-address>
4) wait 20 seconds
5) power off
6) power on

Now ping <ip-address> should work.

Note: Konfiguration machine must be on the same subnet as the printer.

This procedure worked well for me. Thanks again to all who contributed.
