su on 5.1 ++ root home

Hello,

I have two questions re: 5.1

1) su from root to another user doesn't work anymore - you are prompted
   for the users password. Is this a new security feature? Is it possible
   to revert to normal su usage ?

2) Is it possible to move root's home dir from / to something like /root
   This would clean up / a lot.
