NIS tables: ypxfr; RPC: Timed out

Hi

YPmaster: Digital UNIX V4.0B (Rev. 564)
YPslave: Digital UNIX V4.0F (Rev. 1229)

the ypxfer -a d
for any of the nismaps fails with
ypxfr: bind_to_server clnt_call error: RPC: Timed out
(from /var/yp/ypxfer.starup.log)

I rebooted both machines.
ypbind, ypserv and portmap are running. rpcinfo -p
looks the same for both systems.

It used to work!

Any clues what to look for.
